Syracuse, N.Y. – Led by a marriage therapist and a retired cop, a group of Syracuse citizens will conduct a public hearing Friday as they begin a novel effort to redraw election district boundaries without provoking howls of “gerrymandering.’’
The 15-person Syracuse redistricting commission – a collection of voters whose main qualification is that they don’t run for office or work for City Hall – aims to revise the five city council districts in a transparent and non-partisan way.
