When it comes to super villains in DC Comics, none has a more terrifying presence than the Clown Prince of Crime. Since the beginning, The Joker has thrown Gotham City into turmoil, spreading chaos as best he can. One way he achieves this goal is through his many gimmicks and gizmos.
Just like his antithesis, Batman, the Joker has built an impressive roster of trinkets he uses on a regular basis. Some of The Joker’s dastardly gadgets have even become iconic for being some of the most powerful, if not deadly, weapons of all time.
10/10 The Joker Used A Simple Crowbar And Changed History
Sometimes, one doesn’t require the most innovative and high-tech gadgets to cause some serious damage. Simple household appliances and working tools can inflict plenty of pain. Simple crowbars have allowed Joker and his mob to break into many warehouses and knock an opponent unconscious in other capers.
The most impactful use of the tool deals involved the capture of the second Robin, Jason Todd. To break Batman, Joker used a crowbar and mercilessly beat Jason to near death, which inadvertently led to Jason becoming Red Hood.
9/10 The Joker Teeth Are Terrible Timers
A prop most associate with gags and laughs have been the popular wind up teeth, famous for the shaky laugh they create. In Joker’s case, like other famous pranks, he warped them to cause mayhem and destruction.
Sometimes the wind up teeth serve as warning signs that one’s getting closer to Joker. Sometimes they’re rigged with explosives, causing a massive eruption in their wake. While recently used in the Arkham video game series, the teeth still make appearances from time to time, warning off intruders.
8/10 Joker’s Car Rivals The Batmobile
The Batmobile is considered one of the most famous DC vehicles of all time. So it only makes sense that the Dark Knight’s greatest nemesis would get his own version of the car. Decked out in his style, the Jokermobile features offbeat colors and gadgets associated with the Clown Prince of Crime.
The Jokermobile has appeared in the comics since the early years, bearing the villain’s face and smile in the front. The car comes equipped with several of the clown’s famous gadgets, like telescoping gloves and cannons armed with explosives. However, like the Batmobile, the car has been destroyed on multiple occasions, but always comes back in new and more outlandish versions.
7/10 The Joker’s Bombs Bring The Blast
It’s no surprise that a criminal like the Joker could use bombs in his act. Unlike some other villains, the Joker proves himself a master when it comes to explosives, creating his own style of dynamite and grenades to fool his victims and create a much deadlier blast.
Like a trickster, Joker hides his bombs in ordinary objects, such as presents, toys, and pies, to lure his enemies. Sometimes, they have no ticker or have a faulty timer to bamboozle victims, making the villain even more lethal than most enemies.
6/10 Joker’s Boxing Gloves Really Pack A Punch
Not all of Batman’s rogue gallery can last in a fistfight with The Dark Knight. While Joker has proven himself able to stand in a battle, he prefers using his bag of tricks to fight against Batman. As a show of strength and mockery, Joker breaks out the boxing gloves any way he can.
While seeming like regular looking boxing gloves, readers know never to be fooled by the Joker’s inventions. The fists are actually telescopic, able to stretch out at an opponent, just like a Looney Tunes gag. While not the strongest in the roster, it can leave a foe stunned or unconscious.
5/10 Razor Cards Can Be A Deadly Deck
Anyone who’s played with cards before knows how flimsy they can be. For the Joker, who leaves a playing card as his own personal calling card, he turns even the simplest of materials into weapons. Like a cheater who has his own cards up his sleeve, so does the Joker.
The Joker’s created his own deck of cards, specifically made out stainless steel and other hard metals. Just like Batman’s Batarangs, he can launch them like projectiles, cutting his victims. As long as he bears this deck, the Joker’s hand won’t be beat.
4/10 An Acid Flower Smells Sinister
Many have been told at least once in their life to go out and smell the roses. In Joker’s case, he would rather people try to smell his trick flower, but it’s best to stay away from this deadly daffodil.
Unlike most gag flowers that squirt out water for a laugh, the Joker’s flower shoots out toxic acid that burns anything in its path. Sometimes the flower shoots out Joker Venom or even regular water, but the acid has proven more likely, cautioning innocents to keep away.
3/10 A Joker Joybuzzer Is No Laughing Matter
Another novelty gimmick, Joy Buzzers have been used to get a laugh by shocking unsuspecting participants. Under the Joker’s modifications, the simple tool does more than let out a simple shock. Instead, the small tool can produce an outburst of electricity, sending a giant surge to whoever is unfortunate to touch it.
Sometimes, the tool only lets out enough electricity to paralyze an opponent, while others have been fried to death, as if they’ve been hit by lightning. One of the more iconic weapons appearing in film and television, it gives the Joker a deadly handshake.
2/10 The “Bang” Pistol Brings The Boom
It’s no surprise that Joker would have guns in his arsenal of tricks. To anyone who gets in his way, the Joker has a special surprise in store for them. Reaching into his pocket, he’s pulls what seems like an ordinary gun and fires, only for a flag to emerge with the word “bang” on it.
Caught off guard, the victim doesn’t suspect the gun is actually loaded in the back, firing a deadly payload or a container of laughing gas at them. The prop gun has served Joker well, reflecting the clown’s twisted version of entertainment, becoming one of his favorite weapons.
1/10 Joker Venom Brings The Laughter
For any DC fan, the weapon the Clown Prince would consider his most popular and deadly has always been his Joker Venom. The toxin is of Joker’s own concoction, combing different chemicals and solutions to create an almost incurable laughing gas, leaving victims to die with a wicked smile on their face. What makes it even more dangerous is its unpredictable formula.
Instead of using the same recipe over and over, the Joker has created multiple versions, ranging from unstoppable laughing gas to teaming up with the likes of Scarecrow and Bane to create an offshoot that bears more disastrous results. Despite Batman’s ingenuity, not everyone can be saved from Joker Venom, leaving the clown laughing alongside the victims.
