The sci-fi genre is more popular than ever in 2026, with Apple TV’s mind-bending Severance collecting a trophy room full of awards and Hulu’s post-apocalyptic Paradise one of the most popular shows on TV.
While both are excellent, they still have a ways to go before achieving the same level of pop-cultural significance as Battlestar Galactica. The Syfy Channel remake of the cult 1978 ABC series captured the early 2000s zeitgeist while also telling an action-packed story about a near-extinct human race’s battle with a mysterious alien species, the Cylons.
For some time, Battlestar Galactica has been unavailable to stream. That will soon change, as the series is about to become available once again — with most episodes at no cost.
When Will ‘Battlestar Galactica’ Be Available to Stream Again?

Starting May 1, almost every iteration of the modern Battlestar Galactica series will stream on Pluto TV for free. It will also be available on Paramount+, but you need a subscription to access all the shows. It’s worth it, though — Paramount+ has some of the best series and movies around. Plus, it’s the only platform that will stream Caprica, the underrated spinoff that’s worth a binge-watch. These Battlestar Galactica titles will be available on Paramount+ and Pluto TV in the U.S. thanks to NBCU Global TV Distribution.

‘Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries’

Where Can I Stream the Original ‘Battlestar Galactica’?
We have some bad news: The original 1978-1980 series isn’t included in the franchise’s return to streaming. Fortunately, you can purchase individual episodes or entire seasons on major digital vendors like Prime Video and Apple TV.
