Native fashion designer Darlene Perkins, Bismarck, originally from Parshall, and her business, Red Lightning Couture, are presenting an event to raise awareness for climate change, missing and murdered indigenous peoples and residential school children at the Roxy Theater in West Hollywood, California, on Nov. 27.
According to Perkins, “Honoring the Sacred Circle,” will be “an evening of indigenous solidarity and resilience through wisdom, music and fashion.”
This past September Perkins and Red Lightning Couture, partnering with Leander McDonald, president of United Tribes Technical College, and UTTC in Bismarck, presented a similar “Honoring the Sacred Circle” at UTTC.
The Nov. 27 event at the West Hollywood theater will have a number of special guests, musical performances and a fashion show by Red Lightning Couture. John Trudell, the late Native American author, poet, actor, musician and political activist, will be honored.
Perkins, an Arikara/Hidatsa/Lakota and an ordained United Church of Christ minister, said because of everything going on, raising awareness on the special topics has become one of her passions.
