Five months after King of the Hill and Parks and Recreation star Jonathan Joss was fatally shot outside his San Antonio home, Joss’ neighbor has been charged with his murder.
A grand jury indicted Sigfredo Ceja Alvarez, 57, with one count of murder on Monday, according to a case summary viewed by Entertainment Weekly.
Ceja Alvarez was immediately accused of the killing after it transpired by Tristan Kern de Gonzales, Joss’ husband, who cited “years of threats” over Joss’ sexuality. He said he’d witnessed the shooting.
Alvarez was initially arrested in June on a first-degree murder charge and subsequently released on a $200,000 bond.
Police told PEOPLE that they found Joss “near the roadway” when they responded to a report of a shooting June 1 at about 7 p.m. The victim’s husband told them that he had witnessed the incident.
EW has reached out to an attorney for Alvarez.
Joss, whose legal name was Jonathan Joss Gonzales, appeared in all 13 seasons of King of the Hill, which ended in 2010. His voice was used for his character, John Redcorn, in four episodes of the revival that premiered in August on Hulu, according to IMDb.

On Parks and Rec, he played Chief Ken Hotate, the leader of the Wamapoke tribe, on a handful of episodes, between 2011 and 2015. The part he described as the “businessman who was there to better the town” was particularly meaningful to him.
“In Hollywood, you don’t have a lot of Native people writing for Native characters,” Joss previously told Entertainment Weekly. “I think the writers developed the character and trusted me enough, because I am a Native person, to step in those shoes and be able to create this three-dimensional character…. He was essentially the best Native character on television.”
His other TV work included parts on Walker, Texas Ranger; Friday Night Lights; Ray Donovan; Charmed; ER; and Tulsa King. Joss was cast in movies including 8 Seconds (1994), True Grit (2010), and The Magnificent Seven (2016).
