Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center. The 9/11 Memorial and Museum has a website (www.911memorial.org) for more information.
There is also “Explore 9/11,” an app “for deconstructing and understanding 9/11 through the eyes of witnesses,” a spokesman said.
The free app is available in the Apple Store. It was released 10 years ago, but has been extensively updated since then. There is no corresponding app on Google Play, although there is a free app titled “9/11 Museum Audio Guide,” designed for use when touring the museum (but provides an informative narrative when used by itself).

The Apple app has three main parts. There is a seven-station walking tour of interesting points of the World Trade Center. Pictures and audio make up another section. Details of the attack and aftermath are told by first responders, volunteers and Manhattan residents.
There is an interactive timeline showing when pictures and interviews were taken and recorded.
The tour of the World Trade Center site is detailed and takes about 40 minutes.
The aforementioned 9/11 Museum Audio Guide that is available for Android smartphones is also available for Apple iPhones. It’s recommended that the app be downloaded and installed before arriving at the museum. Doing so will provide the quickest download, and will also allow time for updates that might be available.
Also be sure and take along earbuds so as not to disturb others.
