LYNN HAVEN — City officials recently approved a plan to expand the Lynn Haven Sports Complex to give residents more options.
The latest plan, referred to as Phase 4, consists of the construction of new football, soccer and lacrosse fields. Lynn Haven began Phase 1 of the upgrade plan in April and predicted that the entire project would be completed by next spring.
The entire project is expected to cost about $7 million. The price tag prompted Lynn Haven Commissioner Judy Tinder to ask one question during Tuesday’s commission meeting: “Do we have the funds to move forward with this project?”

Lynn Haven City Manager Vicki Gainer told Tinder that the city has enough money available.
“As an update again, it is just moving through the environmental, historical process. Once that comes out, we can move forward and that is the reason we have not started,” Gainer said. “That money is there. It has been obligated.”
Gainer said the Lynn Haven Sports Complex is a 428 project through the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the city can request half of the 428 money up front. She said the city has money in the bank for these projects, but they want to use the money from FEMA first.
The complex was a hub for sports before Hurricane Michael struck almost three years ago. It was a central location for basketball and baseball leagues for children.
The new design of the complex is expected to have five baseball fields, two outdoor basketball courts, a gym with two basketball courts as well as fields for soccer, lacrosse, and football.
