Parliament LIVE: Finance minister to move Tribunals Reforms Bill in Lok Sabha

Hindustan Times reported on Sunday that Parliament could only function for 18 hours out of the possible 107 hours since the beginning of the monsoon session on July 19, leading to a loss of taxpayers money amounting to more than 133 crore.

The monsoon session of Parliament will resume today as opposition parties are again expected to target the Centre over issues of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic, farm laws and the Pegasus hacking controversy. They (opposition parties) will also raise their concerns over the The General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021.

Meanwhile, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman will move the Tribunals Reforms Bill, 2021 in the Lok Sabha today, which seeks to abolish tribunals or authorities under various laws by amending various statutes to streamline the justice delivery system.

The Rajya Sabha will also be seeing a discussion on important bills today including the Constitution(Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and the Inland Vessels Bill, 2021.

Hindustan Times reported on Sunday that Parliament could only function for 18 hours out of the possible 107 hours since the beginning of the monsoon session on July 19, leading to a loss of taxpayers money amounting to more than 133 crore. Of these 18 hours, the Lok Sabha worked for seven hours while the Rajya Sabha worked for 11 hours.
