Maybe you’ve never thought about it before now, but given the chance to interact with turkeys up close, would you do it?
This Thanksgiving, an animal sanctuary called the Gentle Barn—which has locations in California, Missouri and Tennessee—is inviting people to come and hang out with their rescue turkeys.
The Gentle Barn introduces their special event, called A Gentle Thanksgiving: “We are inviting you on Thanksgiving Day to cuddle our turkeys, feed them treats, join us for pie, and games, and celebrate life, love, and liberty with our majestic turkeys who should have been cherished throughout history for their intelligence, affection, and dynamic personalities.”
According to a press release shared with Parade, you can attend the unique event with a donation of $50, which helps the Gentle Barn with their rescue and care operations both with turkeys and other animals. Entry for children under two years old is free.
The event is an hour and a half in length, and the different start times you can choose from are 10:00 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 11:30 a.m.

While at one of the Gentle Barn locations, “visitors can also take a self-guided tour of the facilities and meet many other cuddle-worthy animals.” As listed on the organization’s website, other animals you’re likely to spot during your visit include horses, cows, pigs, donkeys, emus, llamas, alpacas, goats and more.
The Gentle Barn often shares stories about the animals they care for, such as how they were rescued or their strong relationships with one another. This past June, in honor of Father’s Day, the organization highlighted animal fathers like a goat named Merlin, who was reunited with his baby Lolli and her mother, Minnie Mae. But even “after being separated for a year, [Lolli and Merlin] recognized each other right away and were so happy to see each other again.”
