Let’s stopping letting politics be a career – Chico Enterprise-Record

With the election behind us, I have a sense of doom.  Even before the election of 2016 we saw an escalation in the polarization of our country.  Even before that, when Barack Obama was elected, the division of our country was present.  How do we get back to “We the People,” not we the special interests and the self-serving?

The residual effects of 2016 are still so apparent today, as we are more divided than ever.  Unfortunately, we chose a very self-serving president, rightfully elected, but nonetheless, he was in it for himself and his brand. I am still amazed at the following of a man that cheats, lies, bullies and yet is embraced by so many, especially the so-called Religious Right. To them, I would ask, what would Jesus say?

We need to start electing the best and the brightest, whether Democrat or Republican. We need term limits! Politics should not be a career, but a duty to our country to give service for the betterment of all. It is my hope we can look in the rear-view mirror in two years and say that we are better off than we were, but I have grave doubts that will be the case.
