City finance director promoted to assistant city manager | News

Brevard Finance Director Dean Luebbe has been promoted to the newly-created position of assistant city manager.

Luebbe began working in Brevard on Oct. 4 of last year after previous positions with the city of Asheville and the towns of Black Mountain and China Grove. His most recent duties included directing the functions and services of the city’s finance department that included payroll, accounts payable, utility billing, account receivables and fund accounting processes.

As assistant city manager, Luebbe will serve as the city manager when that person is not available and will have oversight of community center operations as well as city information technology and communications.

“Dean gained my confidence quickly with a piercing understanding of the city’s projects and fiscal practices that he had successfully implemented during his own short tenure with the City,” said Brevard Interim City Manager Larry Faison, who began his work with the city in June of this year. “His depth of experience and grasp of Brevard’s operations provided myself a solid platform that I landed on as an interim city manager and I am confident that will be the same for Brevard’s permanent manager.”

The city of Brevard is continuing its search for a full-time city manager eight months after it began. Luebbe’s appointment was effective Tuesday, Aug. 16.
