WATERLOO, Iowa (KWWL)  While Iowa Democrats will likely lose ‘first in the nation’ status for the 2024 Iowa Caucuses, the focus will be on Iowa Republicans, as they have indicted Iowa will remain first in the Presidential nominating process for 2024.

That’s the sentiment of KWWL Political Analyst, Dr. Chris Larimer, Professor of Political Science at the University of Northern Iowa, and Coordinator of UNI’s Master in Public Policy Program.

Dr. Larimer believes Iowa is very likely to lose the top spot, as critics of the Iowa Caucuses will finally get their way, and knock Iowa out of first, in favor of a primary election in another state.

The Democratic National Committee has already taken initial action, in which states will have to apply to go first.

Among other things. opponents of the Iowa Caucuses say Iowa is not diverse enough, and that the caucus format itself is a hinderance to wider participation.  Iowa, opponents say, is not representative enough of the nation as a whole.

Dr. Larimer stops by KWWL to talk about that and other issues for this week’s edition of The Steele Report, KWWL’s weekly, half hour news and public affairs program.
