Holland girls win Holland Invitational- High school sports rewind

Holland girls win Holland Invitational- High school sports rewind

On Saturday, Holland won the Holland Invitational with a 4-2 win over Three Rivers and a 1-0 win over South Haven.

In the first match, Layray Paw had two goals to go up 3-0 at halftime. South Haven struck with two goals narrowing the gap before Riley Elders finished off the scoring. In the second match of the morning, South Haven beat Three Rivers with a last-minute goal to win 1-0.

In the final game of the Invitational, Holland and South Haven were locked in a very tight contest. It wasn’t until the 55th minute that Riley Elders scored from a pass from Layray Paw to win the match.

“We were very evenly matched with both Three Rivers and South Haven. They were strong opponents,” said Holland coach Greg Ceithaml. “We were able to make a few plays that led us to two close wins. I am very happy with the way our team handled the pressure.”

Holland is now 5-2-1 and travel to Reeths-Puffer on Tuesday.

Harper Gerow scored the goal off an assist from Ella Sligh. Olivia Hayes made one save in goal for her second shutout of the year.

West Ottawa sweeps Holland

The Holland Dutch traveled to West Ottawa to take on the cross-town rival Panthers. In game one, the Dutch struggled to get their bats going only getting one hit. The Panthers produced four runs off of seven hits and won the game 4-0.
