In an Instagram Live captured by The Shade Room, the Little Mermaid actress, 24, revealed how she started craving meat while pregnant with her son Halo — whom she shares with boyfriend DDG — and broke away from veganism.
In the clip, Bailey is eating and her 8-month-old can be heard in the background. She tells the camera that after she had been showing off her cooking skills, fans began asking her if she was still vegan.
“And the answer is: not anymore,” she said. “And the reason being is, I think I told some of you guys that when I was pregnant, I had just, like, started craving meat.”
The singer said that she had been vegan for 13 years and when she started craving meat, “I was just like, well, I’m gonna give my body what it wants right now because I’m doing a really hard job of growing a human, and I also wanted to make sure Halo was getting the proper nutrients and things he needed.”
She noted that she still loves and eats vegan food most of the time. “If I have an inkling or craving for chicken or something, I’ll eat it,” she explained. “But I don’t eat a lot of meat. But it’s like if I want it, I’m gonna have it and then that’s it.”
Bailey also said that she found out that it’s not abnormal for vegan people to break away from their diet while pregnant.
“I was looking it up and I see so many women like me who were vegan for years and years. Once they got pregnant, it was, like, out the window,” she explained.
Bailey, who welcomed Halo in 2023, has been candid about her health since giving birth. She spoke about her postpartum journey in April, telling fans in an Instagram video that she felt “triggered” by seeing comments on social media about her family.
“Before I had a child and I would hear people talk about postpartum, it would kind of just go in one ear and out the other. I didn’t realize how serious of a thing it actually was,” Bailey said at the time.
“Now going through it, it almost feels like you’re swimming in this ocean that’s like the biggest waves you’ve ever felt and you’re trying not to drown. And you’re trying to come up for air,” she continued.
Bailey concluded her update by reminding fans that things are not always what they seem online.
“Even though you may look up to certain people and you think that they are celebrities, and they appear it have it all together, you never know what somebody else is going through, especially someone who just had a baby literally,” she said.
